Welcome to the Health Office!  Please browse the many resources provided here.  You'll find easy access to school health forms and policies.  I will continue to add new resources so keep checking back.  Let me know if there are particular areas that you would like more information about and I'll be happy to include it.

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.  I am available Monday through Friday during regular school hours.
A little about Nurse Mary
Prior to joining the Shaftsbury Elementary School community I worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner for over 20 years in both primary and urgent care practices.  I received my Master's Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.  I also hold a Bachler's Degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Michigan and had the incredible opportunity to work for the human rights of indigenous and tribal peoples internationally before going to nursing school.  So, I know a little bit about a whole lot of things!
What do school nurses do?
School nurses play an important role in bridging health care and education.  We promote student health, safety, and learning.
Nursing has been described as the blending of art and science.
Our Health Office is equipped to handle injuries, illnesses, and personal hygiene accidents that may occur during the school day.
Throughout the school year we monitor immunization compliance, administer medications, help manage chronic diseases, provide health education, and conduct health screenings including vision and hearing.
We also help families find primary care providers, dentists, and other health professionals as needed.
Nurses work as a team throughout the District with other nurses.
This year a new role for school nurses is serving as COVID Coordinators within our schools.  We work to ensure that staff and students are safe and following guidelines to maintain a healthy environment within our school.
